How many servers need to managed.
GOOgle (AKA Parts of youtube)
Google currently has about 2 million servers located around the world. Google stores about 10-15exabytes. An exabyte it bigger than a petabyte which is bigger than a gigabyte which is bigger than a megabyte which is bigger than a kilobyte which is bigger than a byte. Google also processes about 20 petabytes of data per year. Here an explanation in an image of what a petabyte can do.
Twitter
Twitter has a lot of information about their engineering of their whole website, but what we are looking for is for their servers right now. So currently they only have about 30k-45k mysql servers. Now these servers are only for mysql there are also servers for the messaging, cache, etc. As you can see on the left the SQL is a tiny amount of the percentage pie. Twitter has definitely upgraded their database because they have told us that they have grown 400% since the original Twitter. Twitter has only 3% of their infrastructure. By what
Twitter says, they finished their network infrastructure by late 2010, currently it is 2018. In 2014 Twitter's TPS shooted up so they knew they had to start expanding, so in early 2015 they started expanding and since than, we have been using 2015 technology on Twitter. Another thing is that Twitter started expanding in September of 2015 once again.

YouTube
Youtube was started in February of 2005 by 3 formal Paypal employees. A year later in November, Google bought Youtube for $1.65 billion. The reason why Google bought Youtube is because Youtube was going bankrupt so because of this they sold the company. In February 2017, there were more than 400 hours of content uploaded to Youtube every minute. And as of this there were also roughly one billion views watched per day. Youtube has to process about 200TB per day, 6 petabytes per month, and about 72 petabytes per year. Currently Youtube has lots of options to watch your video in. These are auto, 144p, 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p(60), 1080p(60), and sometimes 1440p, and 2160p4k. The interesting part and the hard part is that whenever you publish a video in, for example 1080p Youtube has to downgrade the resolution on their part. Whenever you click on a video you give Youtube even more work for the servers. Another thing is that Youtube took down a few years ago is the director account. It allowed you to publish videos more then 10 minutes and other awesome things for back at the time.
